POWDER MATT MOSTELLER is an outdoor adventurer, blogger, author, freelance journalist and Powder Highway-based influencer. This lifelong ski bum with over 40 years on the slopes is also a sought-after writer whose work has been published in countless major city newspapers, magazines and outdoor-centric websites. And, for the past couple of decades, he’s been “chief story wrangler” for Resorts of the Canadian Rockies (RCR) – otherwise known as Senior VP, marketing and resort experience.

When not escaping grizzly bear attacks, running wild rivers in Northern BC, or lost in the Arctic in a mid-winter expedition, Powder Matt can be spotted sipping craft coffee in Fernie, BC and sharing some of his motivational anecdotes. For example: one year, while his friends were busy getting jobs and settling down, a young Matt spent 63 days living in his car so he could ski every day. He’s still accumulating outdoor adventures on a daily basis, and his scintillating stories pop up regularly in the Calgary Herald, Montreal Gazette, Globe and Mail, Toronto Star, Vancouver Sun, Explore Magazine, Matador Networks, WestJet,
and many others.


A self-help crusader, Matt is constantly trying to find ways to fight childhood obesity, getting people outside to experience the benefits of Nature that fuel his own boundless vitality and enthusiasm. He runs wilderness retreats for execs and athletes. “I’m a lover of long trails, canoe journeys, mountain tops, and backcountry skiing,” he says - and he loves introducing these activities to the uninitiated of all ages. 
 
Always on the lookout for inspirational projects, Mosteller co-founded a new event last year - Disconnect to Connect  (#TimeOut #DisconnecttoConnect): The first outdoor industry incubator collaboration in Canada, a movement to seek the deeper good in life, influence greater community value through disconnecting, and inner peace through more nature time,” he explains. He also co-founded #MappyHour Canada which has been motivating cityslickers into the mountains since 2015. And, in Kimberley BC, he helped establish KORE - Kootenay Outdoor Recreation Alliance. And, with oodles of endorphin-energy, most of these activities are voluntary on top of his full-time career and busy family life.


 
His first book - The Adventurer’s Guide to Living a Happy Life – was described by The Calgary Herald as “a kind of handbook for living life to the fullest”. It offers 63 daily meditations to help you broaden your horizons and achieve the 'goosebump' moments in life - sleeping in the car is optional but could be one answer to the affordable housing crunch in ski resorts!

“Matt Mosteller is a force to be reckoned with. A famed business leader, adventurer, and skier - he certainly has the resume to merit writing a guide of any sort. But for those of you who haven't met Matt, it's his love and passion for life that made me want to read his book. It's easy to be happy when things are great - chest deep powder days, booming economic times, birthday parties etc --but what makes Matt a truly special person is that he doesn't wait for those moments to bring happiness to his life, he really does bring positive energy and happiness to life every day, and it's infectious. Spend ten minutes with Matt and two things will happen. First, you will know that you want to be around this guy more often. Second, you will want to know what his secret sauce is.

One of the things I love about Powder Matt is his penchant for one-liners, freely distributed on social media, mostly mountain mantras. “Everyday powder”; “Worries ride with you into your office but they're too big to fit in your backpack”; “Let cold and the wild in”; “Nature provides a humbling goodness we need more of”; “Walk the earth. He radiates positivity, is quick to say yes, but also has time for co-workers, family, friends, and everyone he meets: “Take care of your crew. Love ‘em and support ‘em,” he advises. “Share more love and joy every day.”
